Copper Cosmos is a miniature 1x1cm cube currently orbiting around the Earth onboard the International Space Station (ISS) as part of the Moon Gallery international collaborative artwork.

Copper Cosmos is a miniature 1x1cm cube currently orbiting around the Earth onboard the International Space Station (ISS). The pure copper artwork is created by exploding the surface with gunpowder leaving imprinted designs that reflect the story of this most impressive of elements. Copper is an essential trace element for human life and life on Earth. Copper is used in so many ways. Michael Faraday discovered that an electric current could be produced by passing a magnet through a copper wire. Almost all the electricity we use today is still made with magnets and coils of copper wire in giant power plants. The stunning blue and turquoise salt derivatives of oxidised copper have been used widely in pigment. For Aoife van Linden Tol it represents a link between the Earth, the Moon and the cosmos as a whole. It reflects on the natural beauty of the metals permeating the universe. This work is an ode to her cosmic love of copper. The collection includes an edition of nine additional 1:1 scale replicas. One of which will travel to the Moon. One which belongs to the Moon Gallery Earth based permanent collection. Only seven are available for collectors. On Saturday 19th of February, 2022 Aoife van Linden Tol's Copper Cosmos traveled on a rocket to the International Space Station. It travels with 63 other miniature works of art as part of the Moon Gallery.
