Woods is an early practitioner of the astronautical arts or spacearts and most noted for his two art-in-space art interventions on the Mir space station. In a parallel art career, he has created an extensive oeuvre of highly naturalistic paintings of the Swiss countryside created in a pointillistic technique inspired by particle physics research.
